[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] One of the interesting Tweak UI feature is a tool called X-Mouse or
Windows Follow Mouse, which is designed to facilitate moving between
several open windows. Once enabled, X-Mouse allows you to switch between
open windows simply by hovering the mouse pointer over the title bar of
an inactive window, with no clicking involved. In the case of Windows XP
we could easily enable this X-Mouse or Windows Follow Mouse feature by
using the Power Toys. The Power Toys don't seem to work to enable this
interesting feature in Windows Vista, but you can enable this feature in
Vista by a simple registry trick.
If you're using multiple monitor configurations in Windows Vista, you'll
definitely want to use the X-Mouse or Windows Follow Mouse feature
because, not only are you switching between windows, you're also
switching between monitors. And, of course, this task involves a lot of
clicking. When you use the X-Mouse or Windows Follow Mouse feature in
Windows Vista multiple monitor configuration, you can easily switch
between the various applications you have open on each monitor simply by
moving the mouse pointer back and forth between the monitors.
When you're using the X-Mouse feature in Windows Vista, you'll find it
advantageous to use cascading windows on your Vista desktop, which you
can do by right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting the Cascade
Windows command. When you cascade your open windows, you'll plainly see
the title bars for each open window, thus making it easier to switch
between windows simply by hovering the mouse pointer over the window you
want to work with.
This Windows registry entry change not only makes the window active but
makes it the foreground window by bringing it forward on top of other
opened windows when the mouse pointer is bring over it.The steps for
this registry trick is given below:
* Open Notepad editor from All Programs->Accessories in Windows Vista start menu.
* Copy and paste the following code(in bold) into the new Notepad document:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"UserPreferencesMask"=hex
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]9,12,03,80,10,00,00 ,00
"ActiveWndTrkTimeout"=dword:00000bb8
* Save this newly created Notepad document with a very suitable name
such as Xmouse.reg any where in your computer hard drive.Make sure that
the extension of the saved file is .reg.
* Double-click on the registry file Xmouse.reg to merge the registry entries to the Windows Vista registry.
* Since the changes made at Windows registry, a reboot is required to effect the changes.
Note:It is better to create a registry backup before the windows
registry tweaks, because if any stability problem occurs restore the
registry back.So it is a good practice to all, working with windows
registry.
